A Scottish wedding and a bagpiper really does go hand in hand. From piping guests arrival, through to piping the newly weds on to the dance floor, when the piper plays, something is happening.

This can be piping the bride/groom down the aisle, during the signing of the register, as the newly weds exit the ceremony, top table guests to their seats and then piping the newly weds to their first meal as a happily married couple.

Being a wedding piper, I felt it important to invest heavily in a full ceremonial regalia uniform. We are not only there to entertain the guests, we are also a focal point in directing guests where to go etc. And wearing full regalia, means that the piper is easily recognisable..

I came into the industry through a change in personal circumstances.

I was born and brought up in Crieff, Perthshire where I worked as a post person, and this is where I met my wife while she was visiting her sister, and eventually I moved to the central belt to be with her and set up a new life.

Enquiries were becoming more and more frequent, and I made the decision in 2016 to take a break from the Royal Mail to see if I could make a business work.

Within 6 months I had built a strong diary and this was the birth of PiperDan.

Being a lone piper has its challenges as I don't have a large network of other pipers to assist, but on the positive side, this way their is a relationship building and it means the couple are not just getting "A Piper" on their day, but they are getting the piper that they booked.

From the initial enquiry, it is a very straight forward process with the whole booking done via email which gives everyone that sense of security with everything in Black and White.

On the day of the wedding, I will arrive approximately 1-1.5 hours before the ceremony to get myself dressed and tuned up.

This also gives me time to have a chat with the groom/bride, the celebrant and the wedding coordinator to make sure we are all on the same page.

Making sure the groom is looking his splendid best in the kilt is also part of my duties.

Once I have piped the couple in to the wedding breakfast, generally this is where my duties end, and I can depart confident that the wedding party have had a very positive experience.

I have been in business for 8 years and counting, and every wedding day is as special and magical as the last one.

Being in the industry has also introduced me to some brilliant people, many of whom I can now call friends
